New Year, New Goals

The start of 2010 has been extremely cold for us in the panhandle of Florida. We have had 8 straight days of overnight temperatures well below the freezing mark. The biggest impact is that our courts have stayed frozen, especially in the back ends where shadows keep the sun from thawing. It's been a dismal start to the beginning of our snowbird season, which is our busiest, most productive working season. Oh well. If there's one thing I've learned during my 25 year tenure at Hidden Dunes is that I can't control the weather. Cold days and nights really make me miss my girls, Augie and Chatum. They were great snuggle bunnies in the cold!

The other obvious downside is that I'm not able to be on the court practicing. I have, however, continued my training workouts with Geoff three days a week. Once I'm able to get back on the court, it shouldn't take long to get my timing back. I wish I had more match play available to me here. Nothing gets you match ready more than playing actual matches. Having Phil here to workout with on the court is great. I'll be ready to go by March for the clay court nationals in Houston.

Until then, I'll just wait for the thaw and dream of backhands and forehands!
