Play today with Results

Getting ready to go on the court soon. We play Mid Atlantic, a little surprise to us, but we're ready to play. Our matches go on at 9:30 after the 8:00 matches come off. I'll report results later.

Results from today (Friday)...
I haven't played a competitive tournament match since the grass courts in July. I was a little nervous going out, which I would have been worried if I wasn't. I started strong and played well from start to finish. I played a nice player, Martha Condyles, and won 6-1, 6-1. The match was a little closer than what the score indicates. We had long points, but I hung in there and wore her down. Because some of the older age groups were finishing up today, and courts were at a premium, our team was split up on different courts rather than being side by side. I found Shelly who was in a dog fight, getting ready to split, and Susie was at the far end of the complex having just split. I stayed with Shelly and Mary coached Susie through to a win. We needed Shelly's match to clinch. Shelly was a great junior player and former tour player, but hadn't played any competitive tennis in years. She struggled a bit with nerves and lost a tough match 7-5 in the third. We needed one of the two doubles matches to win. The plan was to sit me to rest my shoulder to be ready to go tomorrow. Mary and Tracie played at the #2 spot, and Susie and Shelly played in the #1 position. Fortunately Mary and Tracie cruised through and won their match. Susie and Shelly played very well, coming back from 0-4 down in the second set to win 6-2, 7-6. Now we face the #1 seed Southerns in the semi finals tomorrow at 9:00. I'll have another chance to play Fran. Susie will play Marinana and Shelly will play either Sue Webb or Sue Bartlett. We have our work cut out for us, but we're strong as a team and are ready to play.
Phil has been a great support for all of us through our matches and practices. Watching is much tougher than playing! The other semis is Texas vs. Northern California.
The weather continues to be spectacular. Last night was the players dinner for all 330 players. This is a huge event and so much fun. The Florida 45's and 35's team are meeting for dinner tonight and a pizza and pasta place. Should be fun. I'll report our results tomorrow.

Good Luck against Fran. You had her down a break in the 1st set in Houston. You are in better shape and have worked hard, so have fun and play tough. Use that backhand....."of ALL time!!"
