First Match

Having worked so hard and sweated so much at Hidden Dunes during the past six weeks or so, the weather here is a dream! Highs today were low to mid 80's, but little to no humidity. Perfect conditions. We arrived at the courts around 9:00 and were able to get on a practice court at 9:45 for about 15 minutes which was just enough. My match went on as scheduled at 11:30. I played Anne Zaneski, a very nice girl who is a lawyer in Manhattan. I forget that not everybody has the luxury that I do, which is to have tennis as my job, as well as my fun. I just assume everyone plays tennis all day, everyday like I do. I'm so impressed with players that I meet that have "real" jobs....lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, sales, etc....I played well and won love and love. It's always a good feeling to get the first match over. Now I feel like the tournament has started. Phil and I ate lunch at the poolside grille, then were able to get a practice court for a good hour workout. I really feel good about how I'm playing and moving. Tomorrow I play my good friend Susie Brown. Susie can be very dangerous on grass. She likes to serve and volley and is always looking for opportunities to attack. I'll need to keep my returns low and look for my own opportunities. It will be a fun, fair and hard fought match no matter what.
