Finally in Philly

Our day started in Columbus this morning with a leisurely breakfast at my favorite place, First Watch. Over breakfast Phil and I shared our excitement about going to Germantown to play. Phil has many great memories of playing at the Germantown Cricket Club. His 45 and 50 National Grass Courts were held here, so for about nine or ten years straight he played, winning a title once in the 45's and once in the 50's. Phil is a great historian of the game and knows so much about the rich history of tennis in this area. Germantown was home to the great Bill Tilden. The last tournament my Mom went to with me was this same one, two years ago. Then it was held at Merion Cricket Club. She loved the history and formal setting of these beautiful and historic clubs.

We left Columbus at 1:30, and were checked in the hotel and at the courts by 5:30 or so. It looked like the practice courts had been full most of the day, but lucky for us things were winding down. We were able to get right on a court and had a great, easy hit for about an hour. The courts were playing very nice with a pretty decent bounce. It was good to see some of my friends that I haven't seen since Houston or Mallorca.

Matches start tomorrow at 10. My match is at 11:30 against a girl from New York that I don't know. Phil and I will try to get a hit before the first matches go on, if possible. The courts aren't playable until the morning dew dries.
