I'm home at last. It's hard to believe my day started in Houston this morning. Fourteen hours ago I was on the court playing my singles final against Fran, and here I am now, home after a very long trip back from Houston. I played one of my best matches ever, and still came out on the short end. I had a plan from the beginning, stuck with it, executed it fairly well, but Fran raised her game when needed and won 6-4, 6-3. I was up a break 4-2 in the first set and had chances but just couldn't convert. It was a highly competitive match, with great points. We were both hitting the ball clean and moving each other around the court. So much fun! It was a warm and windy day again and I just loved being out there competing. My week in Houston was one of the best tournament weeks I've had in a long time. This week was a good barometer to show me where I am in terms of fitness and mindset on the court. I'm very pleased with both at this point, but still have lots of room for improvement. After a couple of days off to rest and re-energize, I'll be back on the court with Renee and working out with Geoff. My next tournament will be the 40's Clay Court Nationals in Gulf Breeze March 31-April 3. Even though it's not my age group, it will be a great opportunity to get some really good matches in before leaving for Mallorca toward the end of April. Renee and I will play doubles in Gulf Breeze which excites me the most!
A special thanks to Marilyn for making this trip to Houston with me. She was the best co-pilot, cheerleader, and warmer upper! Also thanks to Bob and Sherry Weaver for hunting me down in Houston and coming to watch my final!
It's time to put this week to rest.
