Quarters
I just knew today was my day. I had a 12:30 match time for singles...a little later than I like to play, but it didn't matter. I played Christine last year so I knew her style. I won the first game of the match, then the rest was down hill from there. I hit the ball well, but she kept pinning me deep with looping forehands, and when I hit to her backhand she had great slice, backspin, with a killer drop shot. It didn't seem to matter how I mixed it up, she kept coming up with the shots when she needed them. I missed a little more than normal, but I was trying to find something to work. I lost one and one. I was extremely disappointed. I allowed myself to be down for a little while, then I had to get up for doubles. We played a team from Portugal and Russia and won love and two. I played well in the doubles and had good energy. I was happy with the way I rebounded. Fran won her quarters to move into the semis as did Mariana. Susan lost a heart breaker 7-5, 7-6. I really thought we'd have an all American semis for the singles. Fran now plays Christine and Mariana plays Barbara Koutna. In the doubles semis tomorrow, we play the number 2 seeds. Phil and Tom won their round of 16 yesterday afternoon and then won their quarters today. We both have our semis tomorrow at 2:30. Tonight was the Gala dinner for the Individuals. The setting around the pool again was just beautiful with spectacular food presentation and another round of awesome fireworks.
