I came to Indianapolis needing to play some matches for the sake of playing matches. I played well today despite the 25-30 mph winds and won 6-3, 6-0. I started the match a little tight and nervous, and went down 0-2 the first set. Then I settled down and was able to control the match, play the wind and gain confidence with each point. I was pleased to win the tournament, but more pleased with my overall play. Shelia and I played our doubles final late this afternoon and won easily 6-0, 6-1. Now it's time to cheer Phil on to victory. He played his first match today and won 6-2, 6-4. Tomorrow he plays his quarterfinal at 9 and if he should win, play again at noon. I'm glad I'm finished playing so I can watch his matches now. He's such an inspiration to watch on the court....his movement and shot selection are phenomenal. Phil has been a great cheerleader for me through my matches, now it's my turn. This is so much fun!
Emerson and Marlene Recob (Hidden Dunes Winter Guests) stopped by this morning to see us. Emerson lost to the #1 seed in the first round of the 70's and was waiting to play his consolation match at another site. It was great to see them! Evert Jonsson also came over to watch Phil play. Evert is in the semis of the 65's, which is also being played an alternate site. I think Evert has a great chance to win his division. Severe thunderstorms are moving through the area tonight. Hopefully the dry courts will get some much needed water and the extreme wind will die down for tomorrow.

Congratulations on an easy win for you. I'm sure the win will help you in future matches. Tell Phil I'm rooting for him to win. Tillie
What a great day for you!! But most of all we wish you and Phil a great week together. We'll be watching for Phil's results. Say "HI" to Emerson if you get to see him again. Too bad for his first draw.
