Long Overdue

My intentions have been good to catch up on all the goings on, but there are just not enough hours in the day. Thank goodness for that, otherwise we'd probably be working!

I'll start with Phil:

His elbow continued to be extremely painful after he returned home from New Orleans..to the point where he was not able to hold a racquet, much less teach a lesson.  So that he would be ready for our busy season, he opted for a new procedure called TENEX.  It is a less invasive procedure that surgery, and a shorter recuperation time. He had the procedure done in December and it seems that it was successful. He has been teaching with no problem, and playing a couple of doubles tournaments on the weekends. The two tournaments he has played have both been Category II nationals and he and his partner have won both. Because of our lack of training and practice time, he has decided to only play doubles this spring, then work on his game and fitness during the summer to get ready for the all the nationals in the fall. Phil's next event is the National 60 Hard Courts in Palm Springs in early April.

As for me:

I am doing great.  My overall health is better.  I experience fatigue at times, but with all I'm doing at work I should be tired.  I go to bed early (nothing new) and do everything the doctors tell me.  I am still on a bunch of different medications, which looks like I'll be on for a while (life?), but that's ok.  I have put my own playing/practicing/training on hold for a while.  My goal was to make it through this season, get to the late spring early summer, and see how I feel, and reassess my thinking on my own tennis.

As the whole country has been in a freeze this winter, I must say that winter in Naples has been fabulous. We may have had a couple of cooler days (high 50's) in January, but I must say that the warmth and sunshine is a great healer. Phil has been a God send in keeping his eye on me and not letting me do too much.  I wonder sometimes if it's a little overkill, but as I'm taking the breaks he suggests, I wonder how he knew I needed them so bad!

I will do a better job now at keeping everyone posted on what's going on.  As I said, Phil's next event is in early April.  Check back for his playing results from Palm Springs.
