I waited for over two agonizing hours not knowing what was happening in Phil's semi final match this morning. Finally Phil's doubles partner, Neal, called to say they had split. Phil lost the first set in a tiebreaker 10-8, then won the second set in a tiebreaker 9-7. It was a war! I asked Neal to text me updates during the third set so I would know what was going on. Here's how that went:
Phil got broke first game
Phil broke back
Phil up 2-1
(then nothing for about 15 minutes)
Phil up 5-2
(nothing for about 8 minutes)
Phil wins 6-2!
I was so excited for him! A hard fought match; over 3 hours long. Phil told me afterwards that he probably didn't play as well as he had in previous matches, but he fought hard and hung in there. Besides Phil working so hard on the practice court, I have to give credit to Bob, our trainer, who puts us through the ringer each week. It's paying great dividends for Phil right now.
One more match to go...the finals tomorrow morning. He plays Tony Dawson from Texas, who he beat a couple of weeks ago in Asheville, which means nothing. They are very familiar with each other's games and I expect another all out war. However Phil finishes, I'll be so proud of him.
We are all keeping a close eye on "Isaac", the storm down in the Caribbean that is forecast to head this general direction by late Sunday afternoon. Phil is scheduled to fly home Sunday afternoon, but with the tournament finishing a day earlier than planned, we'll see if we can get him home on Saturday, ahead of the storm....hopefully with a gold ball in tow!
