How Quickly Things Can Change

Sorry for not being able to post from Atlanta. All I had to work with was my phone, and for some reason I could access the blog, and type in the title line, but not in the body of the post. So the best I could do was write the one-liners. But here's a brief re-cap of the weekend......

Besides watching great tennis all weekend long, which I enjoyed every minute of, the highlight of our trip was going to a Braves-Brewers baseball game on Thursday night! We took the MARTA rail/bus system to the stadium and enjoyed a relaxing, fun evening at the ball park. Probably one of our most favorite things to do together is go to a baseball game.

Phil and Larry only had to play two matches, but both were tough. They played very well, especially in the finals against Brian Cheney and Armistead Neeley. The first set was tight, and they won it in a tiebreaker. They were in total control of the second set and won 6-1. So to date, Phil has won the National 60 Hard Court doubles with Brian Cheney and three Category II national's in doubles with Larry Turville. Not a bad start to the 2011 season. He was due to leave today for Jackson, Mississippi to play another CatII, but oh, how quickly things can change....on Monday afternoon, Phil was finishing up a 12 mile bike ride, while I was work. As he slowed into the driveway, he used his left brake (rear), then hit is right brake (front), which grabbed the tire, and abruptly threw Phil over the handle bars onto the driveway. He landed awkwardly on both wrists and shoulders. From the intense pain he felt, he was certain that he had broken one or both wrists, plus his shoulders were a mess. I was at work and had no idea any of this was going on. Two hours had passed by the time I got home. I tried to convince him to go to the ER as a precaution, but he didn't want to. Yesterday morning I immediately texted our orthopedic doctor friend and he said he could see Phil in the afternoon at his Bluewater Bay office. Fortunately, after Xrays, there were no fractures. The doctor was a bit concerned about Phil's right shoulder, and wants to see him in a week, and may do a MRI. I'm hoping it's just been jarred really bad, and time and TLC will take care of it. My, how quickly things can change.

Never losing his great sense of humor, Phil is trying to spin all this into me agreeing that we need a riding lawnmower since pushing a mower will be difficult in his "current state". Believe me, that's NOT going to happen. Besides, at the rate our grass is dying due to the extreme dry conditions, we won't even have a lawn to mow!

My procedure is still scheduled for June 16th, which is 5 weeks from tomorrow. But who's counting.
