Still Going

I don't know how a day could be any more fun. I got to play two great tennis matches today...granted winning is always better than losing, but I think I can honestly say that had I lost both matches today I would still feel this way. My singles match was very tough. I played the number two seed, who I'd never faced before, but knew I'd have my work cut out for me. I went down 3-0 in the first set, then down 5-2 and she had a least 6 set points, but I hung in there to come back and win the set 7-5. The points were long and grueling, but I figured out that hitting angles and pulling her off the court worked better than trying to hit through the baseline with her. We were tight early in the second, but I broke to go up 4-2, then went on to win 6-3. It was close to a three hour match, and thankfully my body held up just fine. I had an hour before doubles with Pam against Carolyn Nichols and Margaret Kitchen. A quick sandwich, some gatorade and back on the court again. We won the first set playing fundamental, aggressive doubles. They both stayed back in the second set and we lost a close one 7-6, (8-6) in the tiebreaker. It was truly a difference of a few points, but so much fun. Then we came on strong and broke early in the third to win 6-2. A long, but fun day ! Marilyn is just as tired as I am...she played every point from the sideline. She's a great cheerleader!

Now on to tomorrow...I play my semifinal singles at nine against Susan Boyer. I've played her many times before, and know what I need to do to be successful. I have a calm, confidence about my game right now, so I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play her. Our doubles semis will follow later in the day against Fran and Susan. Looks like another fun day at the courts!

(for Bob and Sherry Weaver...we are playing at the Houston Racquet Club)

You've done it again!! Won both of your matches. What a super player you are and how proud I am of you even though I can take no credit for your accomplishments.
Love ya, Tillie
