We Win

I had another early warm up with Fran this morning. Luckily the winds were gone and it was a beautiful day. After a quick breakfast, I found Phil's court and watched the men play Ireland. The format has an entire match being played on one court. Number 2 singles plays first, then the number 1 singles plays, then doubles follows. Phil went on first for his team. He started out a little sluggish, and with the luck of the Irish, they won the first set in a close tiebreaker. Phil quickly rebounded and cruised from there winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-0. Larry won his singles easily, as did Tom and Lenny in doubles. We were scheduled to not start before 12:30, and we finally got going around 1:45-2:00. Fortunately other courts started to open up, so Susan and I both went on to play our singles around the same time, rather than me having to wait for her to finish before starting my match. Poland only has two members on their team, and they are not very strong. We both won 6-1, 6-0, then Fran and Mariana won the doubles love and love. It's been a long day, but a successful one for all of the USA teams. Everyone won their matches today, so we all move forward tomorrow. We face Germany, a good, but very beatable team. Phil's team has the Netherlands next, which could be a tough one too. From here on the matches only get tougher.
