Opening Ceremonies

Today was a busy day. We had TEAM USA pictures early this morning, two practices, and opening ceremonies. Our practices went well, and opening ceremonies were awesome. There are 32 countries being represented this year. With such a large number of players, only two team members from each team were able to march in. We picked Fran, who is our captain, and Susan because this is her first time here. Phil marched in with his teammate Lenny Wolford. The rest of the USA contingent cheered as our fellow Americans marched in behind Anna Zimmerman, who was carrying our USA sign and flag. Fran reported back from the captains meeting with good and bad news. We are seeded second behind France (good news). We play Australia first round tomorrow....a very tough team who probably should be seeded maybe four (not so good news). So we have a tough match right off the bat. The other two teams in our draw are Poland and Germany. There are 16 total teams competing for the Margaret Court Cup. We'll send our best team out and see what happens. Phil's team is seeded second behind Australia. They have a bye and do not play tomorrow. The weather continues to be just beautiful....very much like Destin this time of year. We're all excited that the matches get started tomorrow!
